KL shares open lower in early trade

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower prompted by the weak performance on Wall Street.

At 9.20am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 2.9 points easier at 1,868.19 after opening lower at 1,868.84.

Market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 163 to 132 while 230 counters were unchanged, 1,082 untraded and 19 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 284.35 million shares worth RM92.98 million.

On other scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index lost 17.39 points to 13,053.57, the FBMT100 Index declined 17.85 points to 12,630.18 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index trimmed 17.79 points to 13,308.72.

The FBM 70 shed 13.41 points to 14,354.67 and the FBM Ace appreciated 32.21 points to 7,074.44, while on a sectorial basis, the Industrial Index added 1.89 points to 3,256.08, the Finance Index dipped 41.96 points to 17,526.54 and the Plantation Index trimmed 13.55 points to 8,523.63.

Among heavyweights, British American Tobacco added 42 sen to RM72.42, Genting gained three sen to RM9.68 and Public Bank edged up two sen to RM19.22.

Actively traded stocks this morning included AT Systematization, Asia Bioenergy, IFCA MSC, Konsortium Transnasional and PDZ Holdings.– Bernama
