KL shares on bullish note mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were on a bullish note at mid-morning today with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) trading 0.29 per cent higher, in tandem with most of its regional peers following a positive overnight performance on Wall Street.

At 11am, the key index was 5.43 points better at 1,850.75, bolstered by gains in selected heavyweights.

In regional markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 1.45 per cent to 16,301.08, Singapore’s Straits Times gained 0.30 per cent to 3,307.20 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.04 per cent to 24,177.67.

The bullish sentiments in Asian markets were in tandem with an upbeat overnight performance on Wall Street, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) rose 109.14 points, or 0.6 per cent, to an all-time high of 17,265.99.

Back home, Bursa’s market breadth was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 390 to 190 while 279 counters were unchanged, 772 untraded and 14 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 885.45 million shares worth RM417.23 million.

On other scoreboards, the FBM Emas Index soared 47.18 points to 12,931.33, the FBMT100 Index surged 44.03 points to 12,516.26 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 44.05 points to 13,180.12.

The FBM 70 jumped 78.04 points to 14,240.00 and the FBM Ace rose 54.83 points to 7,191.22, while the Finance Index went up 65.66 points to 17,353.65, the Industrial Index edged up 2.83 points to 3,205.06 and the Plantation Index increased 34.33 points to 8,398.62.

Heavyweights Malayan Banking added six sen to RM10.06, Public Bank gained 12 sen to RM19.12 and IHH Healthcare edged up 10 sen to RM5.11, while CIMB Group dipped two sen to RM7.06.

Among actives, Sanichi added one sen to 13.5 sen, Nexgram Holdings gained half-a-sen to RM14.5 sen, Sumatec was flat at 41.5 sen, I-Bhd-Loan Rights shed one sen to 6.5 sen and Talam Transform declined half-a-sen to 11 sen.

Fraser & Neave Holdings led the top gainers, adding 60 sen to RM17.40, while the top loser was Danainfra Nasional, which shed 50 sen to RM99.00.– Bernama
